Nursery and P1 Enrolment

General Information

Enrolment for the August intake for Nursery and P1 usually takes place in February, on a date notified by the Local Authority through press advertisement. Children who will be five years old before the last day of the following February are eligible for P1 enrolment. The Nursery has the additional intake points of January and April for children who have by then reached their third birthday. At the time of enrolment, parents should bring their child's birth certificate with them to the school and should inform the school of any medical problems or special needs which their child may have.

Following enrolment of infant entrants for August a member of staff will visit pre school groups and liaise with their staff. Pre school group leaders will be invited to visit the school with enrolled pupils and these pupils and their parents will subsequently be invited to spend an afternoon in the school to experience a little of the school atmosphere and meet their prospective teachers. During that afternoon meeting there will be an informal opportunity for parents to be given a résumé of the P1 expectations and curricular information. They will also have an opportunity to ask questions or air concerns. A similar induction opportunity is provided for nursery entrants.

Children entering at other stages, e.g. whose families have just moved into our catchment area, should be accompanied by a parent or guardian on their first day of reporting to the school. Further information on induction/enrolment is contained in our Care and Welfare Policy, available from the school office.

Parents of children who live outside our official catchment area and who wish their child(ren) to attend Stornoway Primary School must submit a placing request to the Director of Education for approval before their child can be accepted for enrolment to the school. Parents who wish to make a placing request should contact:
